Cobb), and you can good scuffling actress (Evelyn Keyes) whose brother (Nina Foch) spent some time working within casino and you will old good corrupt detective (Jim Bannon). New caustically epigrammatic software, the fresh new cast’s suavely regulated gestures of love and you may risk, and you may Rossen’s thrillingly controlled and you will fashionably assertive photos (as well as his governmental conscience) get this to pugnacious but really intricate spectacle an invisible antique of one’s genre.” [ ten ]

It is mainly a matter of watching Mr. Powell proceed through their paces smartly while a giant cast out-of actors and you may stars promote your conventional help. Evelyn Keyes plays the good nothing woman just who brings about the fresh new finest in him and you may Ellen Drew ‘s the sleek and slinky vixen exactly who gets him into the jams. Thomas Gomez was greasy since the villain and you may Lee J. Cobb does an alternative ready journey given that a weary cops inspector whom ultimately closes the truth.
